doublethepain: (look at that ridic side face action)
One thing Spencer hadn't quite anticipated when he'd decided to visit the marketplace--which is rather quite foolish of him, he now realizes, all considered--is just how many people would try to call for him to buy their wares that he can't afford. He wonders if people think him snobbish, dressed as he is and waving a hand at every merchant who holds a fish or necklace or potion meant to heal his legs out to him, but there's nothing that can be done about it if that's truly the case.

He hadn't asked for money from Joel, that isn't what Spencer is interested in at all. The fact that Joel is a prince is something he'd learned after he'd gone with April to Ersa, after he'd admitted to the fact that he'd fallen in love after one brief encounter, and it does a temporary human no good to involve himself with matters of money.

The loaf of bread, though, as the woman has called it, does admittedly make him wish he'd been carrying just a few coins with him. He offers her an apologetic smile, patting the pockets of his trousers in hopes that it would indicate his lack of funds, but he finds it hard to take his eyes of the bread. Spencer can smell it from here, which means she must be telling the truth of how fresh it is, and he wets his lips with curiosity and desire before forcing himself to meet her eyes.
