"I called James. Uh... Thorton," Joel says. He knows that isn't the same as having called the police, but he imagines it's close enough, especially in a place like Siren Cove. The word will get around, he expects James will take care of reporting it for him. Soon enough this place will be swarming with police officers and Joel wants to be long gone by then. He doubts he'll get his way, but he just wants to find Spencer.
"You work here, right? Is there any other number Davin has, any place you think he might be?" he asks. "He was working on my car, he... my husband was with him."
He wants to know he knows he shouldn't have broken the window. He wants to be able to apologize. He wants to be able to say something, but his throat works and nothing comes out, so he stops trying.
